Three locations highlight different aspects that have given Bali the allure of an island paradise. Our first stop is a cool, tranquil mountainous setting where we get acquainted with the language, culture and customs of the island. Hiking the highlands takes us through rice fields, coffee and clove plantations, and lush tropical forests with refreshing waterfalls. Then on to the relaxing and beautiful beach resort on the Northwest coast giving us a chance to explore and snorkel in the protected coral reef. Winding through terraced ricefields we make our way to Bali's artistic and cultural center, Ubud where we will settle in and immerse ourselves in Balinese culture. Ubud and its surroundings provide untold opportunities to attend temple festivals, trance ceremonies, and performances of Balinese music and dance and see fine handicrafts and art. Traditional massage and instruction in the art of making Balinese offerings are just some of the many treasures in store throughout the trip.
