Myanmar (known to some as Burma) is a land of 55 million people with 8 main ethnic groups. Burma conjures up images of Rudyard Kipling, the tinkling of temple bells amdist golden spires and the smells of spices and incense.

More than 30 years of isolation brought many human and economic struggles to the people.Yet a strong spirit and devotion survives in a country which is also a great center of Theravada Buddhist teachings.

Our Journey begins in the capital Yangon (formerly Rangoon) which is home to Myanmar’s most important place of worship- Shwedagon Pagoda. One of the most beautiful and striking complex of temples in all of Southeast Asia. We continue to the Shan State of Myanmar to spend 3 nights on tranquil Inle Lake surrounded by mountains and reflections of floating monasteries, markets and gardens. Here the local Intha people row their boats while standing on one leg and rowing with the other. In the Shan State we also visit the small and peaceful town of Pindaya where caves house over 9000 Buddha images.

Mandalay is still considered today the center of culture and learning to the Burmese. During our 3 nights here, we visit monastery schools, meet artisans weaving silk and producing embroidered tapestries called Kalagas, and learn how craftsmen make gold leaf.

During British colonial times, the great Irrawaddy River was the true Road to Mandalay. We cruise 2 nights exploring the Irrawaddy on a private boat to Bagan- one of the world’s greatest archeological sites of over 2000 pagodas. Bagan is also home to puppet masters and exquisite lacquerware.

It's a wonderful Journey of Discovery!
